The Prince Albert Writers' Guild was founded on 25 June 2002 at Harmonie, home of Helena Marincowitz.  This group of writers, editors, scientists and teachers, all wordsmiths and lovers of the written word, expressed their common purpose as follows:

The cornerstone of the Guild is that it exists for those passionate about the written word, providing a forum for sharing their mutual interest in writing and editing. This interest will be fostered through shared ideas and activities and contributions from guest speakers.

Die doel sal wees: gemoedelike samesyn terwyl skryfwerk, letterkunde ens. bespreek word, of 'n lesing deur 'n gaste spreker.

The Guild has enjoyed stimulating conversations, grown in knowledge and experience and has collaborated in the production of the book 'Prince Albert - Kweekvallei'. It has also engaged in community-oriented projects, giving editorial advice to the Prince Albert Friend and establishing a Young Writers' competition at Hoërskool Zwartberg

Prince Albert Writers’ Guild Prizes 2005

Two years ago the Prince Albert Writers’ Guild instituted a Creative Writing competition at Hoërskool Zwartberg to encourage young writers in their endeavours. This year the competition targeted the Grade 11 learners and the essay topics were:  All Pay Day, Charlese Theron visits Prince Albert and A Prince Albert Resident (living or dead). The essays were written in Afrikaans.

The prize-winners were announced at the school prize giving in October. Congratulations to 1st: Deolan van Schalkwyk, who won a prize of R500, 2nd Coreen Bezuidenhout (R250) and 3rd Kimmy Gouws (R100). Alicia van Zyl received a Certificate of Merit.

The 2006 competition will be preceded by a Writers’ Workshop for entrants and we look forward to continued growth in the quality of writing and the number of participants.
